Meet Iman, Executive Marketing Manager at Revive Superfoods
Iman is the Executive Marketing Manager at Revive Superfoods. Iman completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto with a double major in Media Studies and Political Science and graduated in 2017. After she graduated, she went back and did a Digital Marketing Strategy Management Certificate at UofT’s continuing studies.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I typically wake up between 5 am – 6 am. If I don’t sleep in, I like to get a workout in before work or go for a long walk to clear my mind before the workday starts, it helps me feel more balanced. Since we’re all working from home at the moment, it’s easy to work from your desk from the moment you wake up to right before you go to bed.
I’m usually ready to get my day started around 8 am. I start with reviewing my schedule for the day, checking which meetings are happening and if I have any presentations, and I’ll make my to-do list for the day and write down my prioritized tasks for that day.
The nature of my role means I’m often communicating with the different departments, from Tech to Product, Procurement, and Operations, to make sure any requests are being completed and that the marketing projects under me are moving forward.
How do you develop a solid understanding of what the brand stands for and where it’s going?
I got to work closely with our CMO Nour and our CCO Eman when I first started back in January, so I got a really good understanding of how far the company has gotten within such a short amount of time. I’m also on regular calls with almost every department, which helps me understand the overall company direction in all the different aspects.
The whole team at Revive Superfoods is always focused on thinking outside the box and providing the best subscription service to our customers. Being around that and always being encouraged to share our thoughts helps you envision what we can grow into within the next couple of years.
How do you give constructive feedback to your team?
I’m still learning to be a better leader. It’s tricky when you’re dealing with many different personalities, so it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. I’ve learned to hear the thought process and strategy that the team or individual went through and then brainstorm with them how we can improve it. Humans by nature are very different, so sometimes it’s really about understanding the different perspectives and working together to optimize good ideas.
Most important qualities that you need to succeed in your role?
I think organization, time management, emotional intelligence, and being a team player are essential to being a good leader in any organization. You also need to research and look at the industry trends to make sure you’re on top of any new trends or ideas and eventually one step ahead of them.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
I love that I can see what the other departments at Revive Superfoods are up to. When you see the company’s growth and all the ideas and projects coming up, you get excited to be a part of a company that continues to grow at a very rapid pace. It’s wild to think that Revive Superfoods is only 2.5 years old and one of the only ready-to-eat food subscription services established in both Canada and the US.
How do you stay on top of the latest trends?
I’m always doing competitor analysis and researching the industry. Linkedin is where I like to go for that. It’s like the Instagram of keeping up-to-date industry trends and trajectories.
How do you deal with challenges in your role and overcoming them?
It’s a learning curve for me. I’m lucky that I have supportive teammates.
I go to Tanya, one of our Marketing Strategists, a lot for help with organization when I’m struggling with juggling so many different things. Our CMO, Nour, is a great help too. She has a lot going on all the time, plus she’s a young mom with a 3-year-old daughter but always seems to keep things going. Seeing and learning how others handle their challenges helps me when I have challenges I need to overcome.
I also like to go boxing or running in the evenings to help me release any stress when I start to feel overwhelmed.
Where do you see Revive Superfoods in 3 years?
I see us expanding our product offerings and growing both in Canada and the US and continuing to grow as leaders in the industry.
