How to Stay Healthy This Winter
Cold weather, frosted windows, runny noses, cold fingertips – the winter brings a sense of coziness which also goes hand in hand with a lot of comfort foods and lounging around. The last thing you want to do on some days is leaving the house, let alone think about eating a salad! However, you don’t want to let a whole winter season go by without making healthier choices to help you feel energized.
Here are 4 ways you can stay healthy this winter:
- Make a new routine
If you’re finding it hard to stay on track with your goals and regular routine, it might be a good time to revisit your routine and change it up a bit. What worked for you during the warmer months may not necessarily work for you now. Make it a habit to revisit your routine every 3 months to make sure it aligns with your current lifestyle.
- Cook your veggies
Salads may not be as appealing when it’s cold outside, but that doesn’t mean you give up eating veggies! You can enjoy cooked veggies in stews, soups, and stir-frys. Include a variety of colours to get a variety of nutrients. Try not to load up on the starchy (re: more carbs) veggies such as potato, corn, and peas.
- Stay hydrated
When you’re feeling cold, chances are you’re not feeling very thirsty. That doesn’t mean your body doesn’t need water! Make it a point to drink at least one big full water bottle before noon. You can also stay hydrated with warm lemon water or herbal teas. Aim for 8-10 cups of water a day.
- Stay active
Don’t spend your whole winter hibernating! Instead, find a winter-friendly way to get active. Tune in to the Revive blog next week for tips on how to stay active during the winter.
